Happy New Year! Another year has come and gone, so it seems fitting to have a look back on 2008 in an RCGrabBag sort of way and check out some of my favorite posts from 2008…
Lots of new additions to the Vintage RC section – Quite a few additions were made in 2008. Vintage Tamiya RC was the thing that had me starting this website back in 2002. The site was static HTML from 2002-2007, after which I converted it to a blog-style website. All the content from the original site was migrated to the new site, so I took the old site down. I might put it back up for “nostalgia”.
Cowon Q5W Hard Drive upgrade – OK, technically this post was created in December, 2007, but I didn’t do a retrospective of 2007 last year, and this post generated such a huge response that went well into 2008, I figured it worthy of mention.
Blu-Ray on the Mac – You STILL can’t play Blu-Ray disks on your Mac, but you can burn them. Here’s another pioneering effort.
Italy Photos – OK, another 2007/2008 article debate. The post was created in 2008, but the photos were taken in 2007, so sue me.
Old-Time Radio Fun – Build your own crystal radio in vintage fashion. I’m still having fun with these things.
Cineroc Video – If you’re a fan of vintage technology, you must visit Retrothing.com. One of the site’s editors, Bohus Blahut, is a professional filmmaker and vintage film fan. After a brief email exchange between the two of us, he took my vintage Estes Cineroc movie and digitized it. Then he did a cool mini-documentary for the film.
My Hobby Archives – I went digging through old photographs of any old hobby/toy-related item I could find from my youth. I was amazed at what I found.
Diana-F Camera – A lot of you probably remember this plastic wonder from your youth. Well, it’s back with a vengeance.
Making Chocolate – Are you a chocolate fiend like me? Then make your own!
Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons – An amazing trip to an amazing area.
Phillies Championship Parade – 28 years in the making.
Yosemite – My second backpacking adventure in this paradise.
Tamiya Rough Rider Restoration – My first restoration of a vintage Tamiya RC vehicle is finally finished.
Of course there’s more, but these should waste enough of your time. Happy New Year!
