MTH AC-6 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward

MTH is sure cranking out some nice looking HO stuff these days. This Southern Pacific AC-6 was released in the Fall of 2010 and has been added to my fleet of big steamers.

Detail is fantastic. The thing weighs a ton since it’s die-cast metal filled with lead. If I accidentally dropped it, I’d probably be looking at an AC-6 shaped hole going through several floors in the house and into the basement. Then I’d be looking at the huge hole in my wallet. Both aren’t pretty.

This model compares favorably with my BLI Cab Forward. Detail on both is fantastic as would be expected with two competing firms. This MTH version came with the Proto Sound 3.0, so to take full advantage of its capabilities, MTH keeps pushing their DCS system. I don’t use DCS, and am satisfied with the way MTH trains run on DCC.

I don’t have video of the MTH Cab Forward yet, so here’s a video of my Broadway Limited AC-4 Cab Forward pulling a string of Pacific Fruit Express reefers on the club layout.
